The Philippines wants a much bigger piece of Southeast Asia’s AI infrastructure boom.
The government released the finalized Philippines AI+ Infrastructure Masterplan 2026–2033 on Sept. 8, laying out an estimated $34.4 billion investment requirement and a target of expanding AI data center capacity from roughly 50 megawatts today to 1.5 gigawatts by 2033. The Philippine News Agency reported that the plan is intended to position the country as a regional AI infrastructure hub.
The timing could be significant. Two unnamed US-headquartered hyperscalers are conducting due diligence on sites in Luzon, according to Philippine officials, potentially giving the country an early test of whether its infrastructure strategy can convert AI demand...
