- Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse‘s first footage has been revealed
- It was shown off exclusively to CinemaCon 2026 attendees
- Sony has also publicly released some fresh images for the animated trilogy capper
Sony has revealed the first official footage for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse — but only behind closed doors.
As part of its CinemaCon 2026 presentation yesterday (April 13), Sony Pictures showed off the first two minutes, plus a quick sizzle reel of other clips, from the forthcoming animated movie. Unfortunately, the footage was shown exclusively to attendees, so it’s highly unlikely that the rest of us will see it.

There’s quite a bit to unpick from the above gallery, too.
For starters, it looks like we’ll either get a flashback of Miles’ father Jefferson Davis and uncle Aaron before their falling out, or Miles visiting another dimension where the pair didn’t drift apart like they do Miles’ universe. There’s also a shot of Miles and his dad having a tender moment in the former’s bedroom, which could also be from the past as it appears to show the young version of Miles we see in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, rather than Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘s teen version.
The final two images show off Spider-Punk’s fan-favorite rebellious scrapbook animation style and a shot of Miguel O’Hara grabbing Miles. The latter reminds me of a scene from the pair’s fight in Across the Spider-Verse, so I’m interested to learn if this is a stylized version of what Miles remember of that bruising encounter, or if it’s depicting a new showdown between them. I guess we’ll find out for sure when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hits theaters worldwide on June 18, 2027.
Why fans are still sceptical about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’s release date
With its first footage a bunch of new images being unveiled, you’d think fans of this animated film franchise would be more confident than ever that it’ll meet its current launch date. That, though, isn’t the case — and I can fully understand why some are still dubious over its mid-2027 release.
Indeed, prior to Across the Spider-Verse‘s theatrical debut in June 2023, its sequel was initially pegged to arrive just nine months later in March 2024. However, following a damning report about apparently dreadful working conditions on that film, coupled with the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Beyond the Spider-Verse was completely removed from Sony’s 2024 movie line-up.
Since then, its launch date has danced around various dates. Last April, it was announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would come out on June 4, 2027. However, two months later, its launch was pushed back to June 25, 2027 just two months later before its release was moved up a week to its current June 18, 2027 slot in September 2025.
I’ll never not laugh at the fact that they originally announced this for March 2024. Like genuinely what the fuck were they smoking 😭😭 https://t.co/6RZdTATczoApril 14, 2026
Given its lengthy development cycle, reported crunch on its predecessor, and shifting release dates, it’s easy to see why some people still doubt it’ll arrive next June. In the hours since Sony’s CinemaCon 2026 panel ended, fans took to Reddit, the ResetEra forums, and other social platforms like X/Twitter to say how absurd it was that Beyond the Spider-Verse was supposed to be out two years ago, and express their concerns over another possible delay.
For what it’s worth, Spider-Verse movie producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have rejected the notion that the third and final film will be pushed back again. Indeed, in an exclusive chat with me last month, they confidently claimed that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be ready to go in June 2027. In the same interview, they also stated that we’d see its first footage “soonish”. I just wish by “we”, they meant all of us, and not just CinemaCon attendees…
