Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer shows Galaxy Z Flip and a superhero budget problem

News Room

The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer has people talking, but not exactly about the plot. This time, it’s Peter Parker’s choice of smartphone that’s quietly stealing the show. In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, Spidey is spotted using what looks like a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, a premium foldable that definitely doesn’t scream “rent overdue.”

Naturally, the internet has latched onto one burning question: how is this guy affording that? Because if there’s one consistent theme across every Spider-Man story, it’s that Peter Parker is perpetually broke.

Isn’t Spider-Man supposed to be… struggling?

That’s kind of his whole thing. Peter’s always been the guy juggling crime-fighting with unpaid bills, missed deadlines, and the occasional existential crisis. He can barely hold a job, yet somehow manages to save New York regularly. All while paying NYC rent, which, let’s be honest, is a supervillain in itself.

And yet, here he is, casually flipping open a flagship foldable like he just signed a brand deal. The trailer leans hard into the usual “life is tough” vibe, but Peter casually flipping open a premium foldable is giving strong approved EMI, zero down payment, no-cost installment energy. At this point, either Spider-Man gets paid per swing, or New York’s saving him back with cashback offers.

Fan theories are doing what they do best

Of course, the internet wasted no time. One Reddit user joked, “It folds in half so it fits in his ass better because he has no pockets,” while others suggested maybe Tony Stark left him some cash, which he’s now clearly spending on… priorities. To be fair, if someone really wanted to rationalize it, the Z Flip could be dirt cheap on a carrier plan.

But let’s not overthink it; this has “clever product placement” written all over it. Still, for anyone who grew up watching Spider-Man movies, this feels a little weird. There was a time when Sony Xperia phones showed up in these films, and it all felt neatly on-brand. Sony backing a Sony property? Clean. Simple. Nostalgic. Heck, even the recent Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie had Xperia devices.

Now, seeing Spidey switch to a Galaxy Z Flip feels like catching your childhood hero casually picking the rival console. Even so, at the end of the day, it’s a tiny detail in what’s likely going to be a huge movie. But it’s also the kind of thing fans love to obsess over, because if Spider-Man is still supposed to be broke, someone might want to check who’s funding these tech upgrades.
