- Marvel is “actively developing” ideas for another season of Marvel Zombies

Marvel Studios is “actively developing” ideas for a second season of Marvel Zombies.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Official Marvel Podcast, the comic giant’s Head of TV and Animation Brad Winderbaum revealed that brainstorming sessions were currently taking place about where the adult animated show’s story could go next.
Exciting as that’ll sound to fans of the Disney+ TV Original, Winderbaum stressed that this wasn’t confirmation that Marvel Zombies season 2 will happen. Nonetheless, his comments are the clearest sign yet that the R-rated program might get another run-out on one of the world’s best streaming services.
Asked about the Marvel TV series’ future, Winderbaum replied: “I’ll tell you this, since I’m on the first episode of the year: we’re developing a few things right now behind the scenes. Obviously, nothing’s been greenlit yet, but we’re actively developing the next Zombies story.
“It’s not official,” he continued, “But [showrunner] Bryan [Andrews] is back in the house and we’re starting to talk about ideas. The little bit I’ve heard so far is incredible.”
Biting back at critics
The revelation that Marvel Zombies season 2 could happen might raise an eyebrow or two within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fanbase.
Four months on – at the time of writing – from the launch of its debut season, its 66% critical and 68% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes suggest that, while it was enjoyable, Zombies wasn’t without its issues. Those are sentiments I expressed in my Marvel Zombies review, giving the show three out of five stars – or, if you prefer, a 60% approval rating.
In fact, based on its average RT critics rating alone, Marvel Zombies is the second worst-rated show that Marvel Studios has produced – Secret Invasion holds that particular top spot with a very middling 53%. Furthermore, out of the 50+ movies and shows that the comic titan has made since 2008’s Iron Man, only six have scored lower than Zombies.
All of this begs a simple question: why is Marvel spending time on developing Marvel Zombies season 2 when it could be focusing on something else? The answer is just as simple: it was reportedly popular enough among Disney+ viewers.
According to a September 2025 report from The Direct, the series’ initial viewership “surpassed expectations” of Disney’s executive team. In its first three days on the House of Mouse’s main streaming platform, Zombies is also said to have topped the Disney+ TV charts in the US, before going on to rank as the #1 TV series on the service globally (per viewership number cruncher FlixPatrol as reported by superherohype.com).
Without firm figures to back up the aforementioned reports, we can’t really determine how successful Marvel Zombies‘ first season was. If Marvel and parent company Disney were pleased with its performance, though, it isn’t a surprise that a second chapter is tentatively being worked on. With Zombies season 1 ending on a cliffhanger, there’s a clear appetite among fans to resolve that particular plot point, too.
In my view, Marvel Zombies shouldn’t rise from the grave for another outing. But, if its creative team come up with a compelling idea to continue its story – and, more importantly, get the funds to realize that vision – who am I to stop them?
