Guys, I’ve got a bone to pick with you. I know we’re only halfway through new Taylor Sheridan show The Madison — with episodes 1-3 now available to stream on Paramount+ — but I fear it’s been written off far too quickly.
Even before it was publicly released, I knew many fans would be disappointed by how far removed it feels from Yellowstone. If anything, it’s much more akin to Netflix smash-hit Virgin River, which means the soap opera vibes are laid on thick.

‘The stakes just get higher and higher’
“I think it’s more of the same, but I mean that in the best way,” Patrick J. Adams, who plays Russell, tells me when I ask what we should expect from The Madison episodes 4-6.
“There’s no big bad corporation coming for us in the end. This is about the family moving through these feelings and the process of grief and transformation… how much can we trust each other, how much we want to rely on each other. How comfortable do we want to become in this environment?
“I think the stakes just get higher and higher as we continue to process these really big feelings and try and figure out what kind of family this is going to be at the end of it all.”
Tell me you don’t read Adams’ description and think of the Duttons. In fact, Yellowstone’s dysfunctional family would probably have been better off if they thought about their own relationships as deeply and compassionately. Thematically, Marshals: A Yellowstone Story and upcoming Dutton Ranch also fall into this blueprint.
“Outside characters come in that immerse us more into Montana,” Beau Garrett, who plays Abigail, adds. “And there’s steps in the logistics of tragedy that have to be met. There’s moments of levity and there’s moments of heaviness, and actually, more comedy. Oh, there’s more fights.
“We like to fight… well, the sisters do. They’re another level!” Garrett and Elle Chapman, who plays Paige, agree. “But there’s a lot of love there, too” Chapman adds.
Outside characters, you say? That sounds like potential crossover territory if you ask me. So I beg you of, keep streaming — if not for me, for Big Man Sheridan. I can feel the payoff coming.
