Some interesting things are happening this week on Netflix if you’re watching the movie charts. As predicted, The Garfield Movie has taken the top slot on the list of the most popular movies on Netflix, while The Super Mario Bros. Movie is on its last ride at No. 10. Rebel Ridge and Uglies have also maintained their spots in the top five, but there are two outliers among the top 10 list this week: Evil Dead Rise and American Gangster.
Evil Dead Rise is a low-budget update of the classic horror franchise that actually did pretty well in theaters. And it’s not hard to see why American Gangster has climbed the ranks. Ridley Scott directed this 2007 crime story, which boasts a cast that includes Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Josh Brolin, and Cuba Gooding Jr., among others. It’s pretty hard for most movies to match that kind of star power.
