We already know that Ted Lasso season 4 is happening, and waiting for it to arrive is the hardest part. With production underway, Jason Sudeikis will return to Richmond in full Ted mode, and fans have been wondering how long they will have to wait.
The latest tease yet comes from Warner Bros. Television boss Channing Dungey, who confirmed that filming is underway and that the team is actively discussing a mid-year release in 2026 (via Stuff).
There is no locked in date from Apple yet, but the internal expectation is sometime from the second quarter onward. In plain terms, that puts Ted Lasso season four somewhere between late spring and summer next year.
Why mid-year 2026 suddenly feels very real
A mid-year release would line up neatly with how Ted Lasso has been scheduled before. Both previous seasons arrived in the warmer months, with season 1 landing in August 2020 and season 2 following in July 2021.
This release timeline also places the show right around the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Whether Ted Lasso returns during the tournament or just after it wraps, the timing would give Apple TV a massive sports-fueled lead in.
Ted Lasso season 4 is also shaping up to feel different. Reports indicate the story will shift toward the creation of a women’s team at AFC Richmond, which helps explain the influx of new cast members and the longer development timeline.

Many viewers felt Ted Lasso had already told a complete story, a concern even echoed by Brett Goldstein, who once likened the idea of a fourth season to bringing a cat back to life. However, rather than simply extending the original arc, the show now appears to be expanding its world.
The hope is that Ted Lasso can recreate its magic by shifting focus to a new set of characters this time. But the next season will need to show clear growth, as simply revisiting familiar beats may not be enough this time.
