Just a few days ago, I called the 50% off Apple TV deal “the best Black Friday streaming deal so far” as I thought it comfortably trumped the premium Binge for AU$2 for a month offer. Just days after and I’ve been proven wrong because there’s 30% off an annual standard subscription to Disney Plus available as part of its Black Friday sale and this one is the better buy for most people.
While Apple TV might be stealing the premium streaming spotlight from HBO with series like The Studio, Severance or Ted Lasso, it simply doesn’t have enough content.
Disney Plus, however, strikes a more Netflix-esque balance, offering excellent drama series like Alien: Earth and Paradise, alongside casual viewing and family favourites. On top of that, you get live sport through ESPN – making its value undeniable.
While Black Friday is why this deal exists, the savings aren’t the only reason I think now is the perfect time to subscribe.
I’m a huge sports fan, so this subscription would pay for itself by February just with the easy access to Christmas Day NBA matches and the Super Bowl. Better yet, ESPN boasts the most NBA games in Australia of any platform other than NBA League Pass, alongside basically every NFL game and a heap of NHL. Plus, because it lasts 12 months, you’ll get to watch the 2026 MLB World Series, despite the season just ending.
Enough ball talk, though.
Fantastic Four: First Steps and Freakier Friday arrived earlier this November and there’s even more enticing content coming in December, like the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid, two brand-new Taylor Swift documentaries and, most importantly, season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The library is also filled to the brim with Christmas content, including classics like Home Alone, The Santa Clause and The Polar Express , as well as newer additions like The Santa Clauses sequel series, Home Sweet Home Alone and The Guardians Holiday Special.
Oh, and you’ll be able to catch up on The Bear before the new season arrives, likely in June if it follows the pattern of its first four seasons.
To sweeten the package even further, Disney Plus is offering subscribers even greater value with its ’12 Days of Disney+ perks’ – a set of mysterious daily rewards that tie the bow on an already stellar deal.
