- A leaker has shared many possible design and spec details of the iPhone Fold
- This includes a big battery, two rear cameras, just two color choices, and more
- The leak suggests this phone will differ from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in at least 7 major ways
It’s finally looking like the iPhone Fold might actually launch this year, as while this phone has been rumored for what feels like an eternity, we’re starting to hear a lot more details about it, with the latest leak shedding light on its potential design and specs.
From this, we’re getting a clearer idea of how it might differ from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 – the successor to which is likely to be the iPhone Fold’s biggest rival.
So below, based on this new leak from Instant Digital (via Apple Insider), we’ve listed seven ways Apple’s upcoming foldable phone could differ from Samsung’s current flagship one.
1. Its battery might be bigger
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 only has a 4,400mAh battery, but it sounds like the iPhone Fold’s battery could be significantly higher-capacity, with this source claiming it will have the largest iPhone battery ever.
That means it would be bigger than the 5,088mAh battery in the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with leaker Fixed Focus Digital recently claiming that its battery will be 5,500mAh.
iPhones tend to be very power-efficient too, so that might mean this is the longest-lasting foldable phone yet.
2. It could have one less camera
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has three cameras on the back, but according to this leak the iPhone Fold will only have two.
While they don’t specify what roles these cameras will play, we’d assume they’ll be wide and ultra-wide, like Apple’s other dual-camera phones – meaning there probably won’t be a telephoto camera.
For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a wide, ultra-wide, and 3x zoom camera on the back, so Apple’s phone might not be as versatile for photos.
3. It will likely include Apple’s Camera Control
While the iPhone Fold might lack for lenses, it’s likely that it will at least have Apple’s handy Camera Control, with this leak claiming it will be placed on the right edge.
With this, you’d be able to open the camera, take photos, record videos, zoom in and out, and adjust various camera settings such as the exposure and tone, all with this one button (although Apple insists it’s not a button).
So it’s a powerful hardware feature if you make full use of it, and it’s something Samsung’s phones don’t have.
4. The button layout could differ
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has all its buttons on the side, which is a layout that’s in line with lots of other phones, including iPhones, but according to this leak the iPhone Fold could have a more unusual layout, with the volume buttons being placed on the top edge – though the power button and Camera Control would still apparently be on the right side.
There’s a good reason for this layout though, as it supposedly means Apple doesn’t have to run cables from the motherboard (which is said to be on the right side) all the way over to the left edge – and that in turn apparently leaves space for a larger battery, as detailed above.
5. It might be sold in fewer colors
If you like having lots of colors to choose from then you might be disappointed by the iPhone Fold, because according to this leak it will only be sold in two shades. Apparently a white shade has been confirmed, while the other option is still being decided on.
That’s in contrast to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is sold in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jet Black, and Mint shades – that’s still not a huge selection, but it’s twice as many as we might get here.
6. It could have a Dynamic Island
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone Fold is said to have a Dynamic Island – which is something you won’t get on Samsung’s phones.
That said, it will apparently be smaller here than on other iPhones, presumably because the phone supposedly only has a punch-hole camera in the screen, rather than there being Face ID components too. That’s because according to this and many other rumors, it will use Touch ID rather than Face ID.
7. The camera block might contrast the rear color
Interestingly, the camera block on the iPhone Fold apparently won’t necessarily match the color of the rest of the phone, with this said to be black regardless of what shade the rest of the phone is.
Since white is the only confirmed color according to this source, that could make for a nice white and black contrast.
That’s a different approach to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, where the color of the camera block matches the rest of the phone.
