How to move your Twitter/X follows to Bluesky

News Room

Bluesky has ascended in popularity, gaining over 20 million users in the past month. The influx of new users come mostly from X (formerly Twitter), in the wake of Donald Trump’s reelection and a series of controversial changes made by Elon Musk.

If you’re looking to leave X, then one of the things holding you back is the idea of losing your precious follows and followers. After all, most users have built up relationships and don’t want to lose them. If this is you, you’re probably wondering how you can migrate your Twitter followers and follows to Bluesky without losing them. Luckily, we have a solution to that problem — whether you have already deleted your X account or still have it up and running.

One of the best ways to migrate your X followers and follows to Bluesky is with Sky Follower Bridge, a browser extension that helps you find out how many of your followers/follows switched over to Bluesky and whether or not you follow them straight from your X profile. If you haven’t deleted your X account already, you can already use it to search for your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances that you follow/follow you on X. If you deleted your X account and 30 days haven’t passed from the time you did, you’ll have to reactivate it in order to use the extension.

How to move your X follows to Bluesky using Sky Follower Bridge

Sky Follower Bridge is available for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox. Simply go to the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-Ons Store, or Firefox Browser Add-Ons Store, respectively, and add the extension to your browser.

Step 1: Go to your browser’s add-on store — in this case, Chrome Web Store — and download Sky Follower Bridge. Select Extensions and pin it to your browser for quick access.

Step 2: Select the Followers or Following link on your Twitter profile. Once you see the Followers and Following tabs, select the Sky Follower Bridge extension and type in your Bluesky username. Then select App password to receive a password to continue.

Step 3: On Bluesky’s App Password page, select Add app password. You will be asked to either create your own unique password or type in the one Bluesky generates for you in order to get the password. Copy the password.

Step 4: Paste the password into the password box on Sky Follower Bridge and select Find Bluesky users. It will start scanning for Twitter users who created Bluesky accounts. The number of users detected depends on whether you’re on the Verified followers tab, the Followers tab, or the Following tab. When the scanning is done, select View detected users.

Step 5: Here, you’ll see a list of Twitter users and the Bluesky accounts they match with. You can either follow their Bluesky accounts individually or select Follow all to follow everyone at once.

Keep in mind that the user detection system on Sky Follower Bridge hasn’t been perfected yet, which means some Bluesky accounts may not be the same as the X accounts they’re linked to on the list. Also, it won’t be able to find anyone who isn’t using the same name or username, or hasn’t linked to their Bluesky account from their X account.

Sky Follower Bridge is currently the only method of efficiently importing your X followers and follows to Bluesky that we could find. If you’ve already removed your X account, you can share your Bluesky username and page on your other social media (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) and ask your followers on those platforms to follow you there themselves. If you still have it, you could also go back into your X account and share a tweet with your Bluesky information and give a deadline for your followers to follow you on Bluesky before you delete your X account forever. Or, if you want to keep your X page up for a little while longer, you can add your Bluesky username in your X bio.

You may want to make your Bluesky username the same as your X username. This helps make it easier for people to find you on Bluesky faster, and lowers their chances of following the wrong person with the same name as you, or worse, an imposter.
