Honor’s unusual, mechanical-armed smartphone is almost here, and now its reported specification sheet has leaked online.
The long-anticipated Honor Robot Phone reportedly includes top-tier hardware alongside its motorized camera trick, according to prominent tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. Ahead of its official reveal in China, the leak gives tech fans a complete look at what to expect from the brand’s most unusual handset to date.
Key specifications revealed in new leak
The leaked specifications outline an uncompromising flagship build:
- Display: 6.3-inch flat LTPO OLED (2640 x 1216 resolution) featuring an anti-reflective coating and a peak brightness rating of 6,800 nits.
- Processor and custom chips: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 paired with three in-house silicon chips—the C1 (RF enhancement), E2 (power management), and H1 (imaging processor).
- Battery and fast charging: 7,060 mAh capacity with included 120W wired fast charging adapter.
- Camera array: 200MP main camera (1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.6 aperture) mounted on a 3-axis motorized gimbal, alongside a 200MP periscope telephoto lens (1/1.4-inch sensor, f/2.6, 2.7x optical zoom) and a 50MP ultrawide module.
- Memory and storage: Configurations in 12GB RAM + 512GB storage and 16GB RAM + 1TB storage.
Mechanical gimbal and ARRI partnership
Honor previously held an event detailing the hardware driving its robot camera system, which was co-developed with German cinema camera manufacturer ARRI. The device includes native Log-C3 video encoding, on-device LUT color grading, and an ARRI-inspired Cinema mode.
To power the motorized camera movement, Honor engineered a custom 2.6-gram gimbal motor. Honor claims the motor is 65% smaller than standard gimbal sensors while generating 35% higher torque density. In addition to video stabilization and tracking, Honor designed the camera housing to perform physical movements such as nodding, shaking, or moving along to music.
What it could mean for Honor
The Robot Phone appears to be Honor’s attempt to stand out in a crowded premium smartphone market, where AI features have become increasingly similar across brands.
Rather than focusing solely on software, Honor is pairing AI-powered imaging features with specialized hardware, including a gimbal camera system, custom imaging silicon, and a large battery. That combination could appeal to mobile creators looking for advanced video capabilities without carrying dedicated camera equipment.
The tradeoff may be size. Earlier reporting based on the same leak suggests the device is thicker and heavier than typical flagship phones because of its camera hardware and larger battery. Whether buyers accept that compromise will likely determine how much demand there is for this different approach to smartphone design.
Honor is expected to officially unveil the Robot Phone on Aug. 12, when pricing, global availability, and the final specification sheet should become clear.
