Fans of the popular Mario blog, Supper Mario Broth, have come together to remind us that the internet can still be a place where good things happen.
Supper Mario Broth is one of the most wholesome Mario blogs on the internet. Since 2017, its owner has posted a regular stream of Mario-flavored tidbits he could dig up including interesting glitches, old advertisements and merchandise, screenshots, gifs, artwork, and more. If itâs obscure and has to do with Mario, Supper Mario Broth will let you know about it and the blog has become a celebrated institution in the broader Nintendo community.
However on October 17th, the person behind all this wonderful content posted a video saying the entire endeavor was in danger of being permanently shut down. âThis is the end of Supper Mario Broth as we know it,â said the creator, who has not revealed his real name and prefers to simply go by Broth.
In the short-but-heart-wrenching video, Broth revealed that for the last six years he was the primary caregiver for his mother. He said the government assistance he received for that work, in addition to a part-time salary and meager earnings from his Patreon was just barely enough to allow him to work on Supper full-time. However, Broth shared that his mother passed away and that his other earnings wouldnât be enough for him to stay in his apartment.
âI will have to get a full-time job,â he said. âAnd I will not have any time to do Supper Mario Broth anymore.â
Broth ends the video with an emotional plea begging his fans for their help.
âIâm praying for a miracle,â Broth said.
The very next day, October 18th, Broth posted an update saying support he received was so great that not only would he be able to continue his work full-time but heâd also be able to expand his operation.
Because of community, mutual support, and genuine human empathy, a person had their livelihood saved. Not only that, but Brothâs work has genuinely contributed to the preservation of Mario history and we, thankfully, still get to enjoy that.
âI will always remember […] all of the joy we shared in Mario,â Broth said. âAnd I hope that whatever happens, you will remember me.â
