Spoilers for My Life with the Walter Boys season 2 ahead.
We always knew that Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez) was going to return to Colorado after leaving for New York at the end of season 1, and we also knew that was going to bring a whole heap of new drama with her. What we didn’t know is how little she’s been connected to the shocking finale twist at the end of My Life with the Walter Boys season 2. The Netflix series put family ahead of home in its final moments, leaving the ranch, as well as the Walter family, in jeopardy.
However, I don’t think any of us should be too surprised by what’s happened. If you paid close attention through episodes 7-9 of season 2, you’ll have seen some telltale signs (that I’ll go into shortly). It’s all a heartbreaking conclusion even so, and shifts the green lit season 3 into a different, darker tone.
Even though I’ve got no idea how the family will immediately react or handle the situation, I think it’s abundantly clear that the ending of My Life with the Walter Boys season 2 will take one of two paths in season 3. No matter which it chooses, the family and Netflix series will be changed for good, and I’m not entirely sure that it’s a good thing.
What happened in the ending of My Life with the Walter Boys season 2?

The final moments of My Life with the Walter Boys season 2 were left in jeopardy as George (Marc Blucas) had a suspected heart attack while out on the ranch – although we don’t see this play out onscreen. While Jackie and Cole (Noah LaLonde) appear to be moving in for a kiss after a pretty explosive heart-to-heart, Will (Johnny Link) arrives at the house, shortly followed by paramedics.
Jackie and Cole look shocked while asking what’s going on, with Will replying: “It’s Dad.” The screen fades to the credits from here, but clues in episodes 7-9 tell us that George has likely suffered from a heart attack. We see him routinely get out of breath, unable to physically exert himself how he did in season 1 and earlier episodes. This indicates a health problem that’s as much of a slow burn as it is a sudden shock, and a heart attack fits the bill.
At present, Nathan (Corey Fogelmanis), Danny (Connor Stanhope) and Katherine (Sarah Rafferty) seemingly don’t know about what’s happened to George. Alex (Ashby Gentry) is seen emerging from the house as Will tells Jackie and Cole what’s happened.
What this means for My Life with the Walter Boys season 3
As I’ve touched on, there’s two possible routes new season 3 episodes take from here. The first is to pick up immediately where the season 2 finale leaves off, essentially killing George before we can really get our heads around what’s what. It’s a bleak choice, but not an impossible one. Young Sheldon fans may remember that a similar strategy happened with Sheldon’s dad George (Lance Barber). First having a heart attack in season 1 and then season 5, he was killed offscreen while suffering another at work in the final episodes of season 7. The next thing we know it’s his funeral, and everyone (including us) is crying.
If Netflix wants to inject an unexpected shock into the series, this is the way to go. We’ve not seen any drama of this level in neither My Life with the Walter Boys or the streamer’s rival shows like Virgin River and Emily in Paris. If death does happen, it’s usually more subtle and expected. So beat yourself at your own game, I guess?
The second choice is much more suited to the show’s tone. In this version of season 3, we’d pick up a few months after the events of the season 2 finale, showing a frailer-looking George who is on the mend, taking it easier around the house. Will has taken over ranch duties in his place, carrying the family legacy to somewhere it couldn’t have reached before.
Arguably, Will is already at the threshold of these duties as it is, but it’s likely going to take something serious to get him to step up. His dad’s serious health crisis would be the perfect solution – able to move things along while staying relatively inoffensive if George isn’t actually killed off. This would allow My Life with the Walter Boys to both bring the family closer together and explore who they are as people in completely new ways. This has my vote for what we’re likely to see whenever season 3 does arrive, but who knows? Maybe George comes around in the ambulance and we all forget that this sorry little detail ever happened.
