Apple is testing a Siri upgrade that could let users stack multiple requests into a single command, giving the assistant a much more capable role in iOS 27. Bloomberg reports the feature is in development as part of Apple’s next round of software updates.
Instead of making users go step by step, the new version would let Siri carry out connected tasks in one go. The upgrade is reportedly part of a larger Siri overhaul expected to take shape later this year.
Apple wants Siri to think in sequences
Right now, Siri tends to break the moment. A request with several parts can turn into stop-and-start phone work, with the assistant dropping out before the task is finished.
The version Apple is testing would need to hold onto the thread long enough to complete the full chain. That includes more complex app behavior, such as retrieving a photo, editing it, and sending it in a single instruction.
On the phone, that would feel different from the Siri people have used for years. The assistant would not just react to a prompt and stop. It would stay inside the flow of the task.
Still popular, but no longer enough
Siri has long been good enough for quick phone help, like setting up reminders or a timer. However, the trouble starts when a request becomes longer or requires several actions, which is where newer AI assistants have raised the bar.
Apple has been trying to update that. It showed off a more advanced Siri in June 2024, but it was delayed several times due to engineering problems.
What used to feel acceptable now feels dated much faster.
More is building around the assistant
Recent reports suggest this Siri update sits inside a larger set of changes still taking shape.
Apple is reportedly considering opening Siri to third-party AI models such as Gemini and Claude in iOS 27, which would broaden the assistant beyond the company’s own tools and its current ChatGPT arrangement.
Apple has also already moved on to iOS 26.5 beta 1, released to developers on March 30, with coverage centered on smaller additions such as the return of RCS encryption testing and Apple Maps updates.
WWDC could show how ready this really is
The next big checkpoint is June. Apple is expected to use WWDC to showcase the new Siri and other Apple Intelligence features in greater detail. That gives the company a near-term stage to show what is actually ready, what is still limited, and how much of the assistant overhaul is prepared for release this fall.
There is still some reason to be cautious. In internal testing, some of the new Siri capabilities are labeled “Preview,” which suggests Apple may introduce parts of the upgrade without presenting them as fully finished.
So aside from presenting more features, the long-awaited Apple event may also show how much of this Siri rebuild the company feels ready to stand behind at launch.
