- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere next January
- Its first trailer should be with us this weekend (October 11 or 12)
Send a raven to your fellow Game of Thrones fans, everyone, because the high fantasy franchise’s next live-action adaptation is set to arrive in January 2026.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will be the third Thrones TV show to debut on HBO Max, is set to premiere in the first month of next year. Indeed, the official Game of Thrones X/Twitter account confirmed as much today (October 6).

Previously we only knew that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms would arrive sometime in early 2026, so it’s satisfying to know that we’ll have a potentially great program to watch and lift our post-oliday blues.
The series’ launch month announcement was accompanied by its first official poster, too.
In it, we see a young Aegon V Targaryen, a future king of Westeros, looking up at an incredibly tall individual whose full frame doesn’t even fit onto the artwork. The person in question? Ser Duncan the Tall, one of the show’s titular duo – alongside Aegon V – and a future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
This won’t be the only major reveal we’ll get for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in the coming days. A panel for the forthcoming HBO TV Original will take place at New York Comic-Con (NYCC) 2025 this weekend. In fact, it’ll be one of the first major panels of this year’s convention, with the event occurring on Thursday, October 9 at 1pm ET / 10am PT / 5pm BST.
So, what do we expect to learn at said panel? Hopefully, the show’s actual release date. I’m all but certain a first trailer will be unveiled, too, especially as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is only three months away from premiering on one of the world’s best streaming services. Apart from an HBO Max sizzle reel that contained the very first footage of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, we’re yet to see anything substantial. It’s high time, then, that this was rectified.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms timeline: when does it take place? And what’s it about?
Based on the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ novellas penned by Thrones author George R.R. Martin, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms tells the tale of Ser Duncan the Tall (aka Dunk) and his squire Aegon (aka Egg).
As for where their adventures sit on the Westeros timeline, ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ occur around 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. That places it between that critically-acclaimed book series and House of the Dragon, aka another of Martin’s book that chronicles the Targaryen Civil War. That literary work has also been turned into a TV series and its next installment – House of the Dragon season 3 – is being filmed as we speak.
It’s unclear if A Knight of… will adapt all three novellas this season. However, with one of the best HBO Max shows – potentially, anyway – only expected to comprise six episodes, it’ll be fascinating to see if the three pieces of literature have been squeezed into a single season’s worth of television or if there’ll be a follow-up.
While we wait for more news on the upcoming program, get the lowdown on everything else we know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
