Samsung is taking another swing at one of foldable phones’ biggest flaws.
Samsung on Tuesday introduced Flex Titanium, a new foldable display technology that it says will make future Galaxy foldable phones more durable while reducing the visibility of the screen crease.
The technology combines two titanium-based components, a titanium alloy film beneath the OLED panel and a titanium plate beneath the display module, to enhance strength, flexibility, and structural support without increasing the device’s thickness.
The company said the redesigned display is the result of seven generations of foldable device development and reflects years of engineering improvements aimed at balancing durability, portability, and a better viewing experience.
How Flex Titanium works
According to Samsung, the titanium-alloy film offers 20 times greater mechanical stiffness than polymer film while remaining extremely thin, about one-third the thickness of an average human hair.
Samsung said a titanium plate beneath the display helps stabilize the screen by improving the display module’s bond to the supporting structure. Samsung said advanced hole-processing technology reduces air gaps while preserving the flexibility needed for repeated folding and unfolding.
The company also paired the new structure with a high-resolution display architecture and next-generation organic materials that it says improve power efficiency while maintaining vivid image quality.

Coming to Samsung’s next foldables
Samsung confirmed that Flex Titanium will debut in its next generation of Galaxy foldable devices, with additional details scheduled for Galaxy Unpacked on July 22.
While Samsung did not name specific products in its announcement, the reveal comes ahead of the company’s expected launch of new Galaxy Fold and Flip models. The company has steadily refined its foldable lineup since launching the original Galaxy Fold, focusing on reducing crease visibility, improving durability, and making devices thinner.
Looking beyond the hardware
Samsung’s latest display update highlights how the foldable smartphone market is shifting from proving the concept to refining everyday usability.
Visible creases and long-term durability remain among the most common concerns for buyers considering foldable phones. If Flex Titanium delivers the improvements Samsung promises, it could help make foldables more appealing to mainstream consumers rather than early adopters.
The move also raises the competitive stakes. Samsung has long been a leader in the foldable smartphone market, but rivals continue to narrow the gap, and reports suggest Apple is preparing its own foldable device. Continued display innovation could remain one of Samsung’s strongest advantages as competition intensifies.
Still, the real test will come once the new devices reach consumers. Samsung’s claims about durability, crease reduction, and efficiency will need to be validated through real-world use, and pricing will continue to play a major role in determining how quickly foldable phones move into the mainstream.
