- Netflix is bringing a new slate of multi-player party games to its TV experience
- They’re set to arrive in time for the holiday season, starting with five games including Lego Party! and Tetris Time Warp
- Netflix has dabbled with games since 2021, but this is the first time it’s bringing party games to TV
Netflix is combining movie night with games night, as the best streaming service has just unveiled its plans to bring a slew of new multi-player party games to Netflix on TV which will be rolling out this holiday season.
According to Netflix, its new party games are ‘coming soon’ and you’ll be able to play them right from the Netflix app. Since 2021, Netflix has been dabbling in offering its subscribers gaming experiences, but this has been limited to mobile-only use. As for its new TV party games, it’s already given us a taste of what to expect – and in all fairness, it’s a pretty solid line-up.
One of the five new games is Lego Party!, which was released for Nintendo Switch just last month and would cost you the best part of ($39.99 / £34.99) to buy the game separately. Joining Lego Party! is Boggle Party, a race-against-the-clock anagram puzzle game, as well as Pictionary: Game Night and Tetris Time Warp – classics in their own right.
The fifth party game, and the one I’m most intrigued about, is titled Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends. From its description, it sounds like a social deduction game similar to Among Us, where you have to whittle down your group of friends and uncover the ‘party crasher’. I’m already starting to think of the fun my friends and I are going to have with this one.
Some things to bear in mind
When you start planning your future hybrid movie and games nights, there are a few things to consider. For example, Netflix’s new party games are included in your monthly subscription, and will need the Netflix Game Controller app on your mobile device to control the fun on your TV screen.
iOS users can download the app from the App Store and begin that way, but it’s a different case for Android users. According to CNET, if you have an Android device, you’ll need to download the Netflix app from the Google Play Store and then scan a QR code on your TV to get started with Netflix’s party games. You’ll also need to scan the code each time you want to start a game, which is the only major downside.
Netflix hasn’t revealed a released date yet, but we’re expecting its flurry of party games to arrive just in time for the holiday season. The streaming service is starting with the five mentioned above, teasing that there’s more to come: ‘This is just the beginning – stay tuned for more news and get ready to play, connect and have fun together on Netflix’.
