3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (November 29-December 1)

News Room

The weekend after Thanksgiving is usually a pretty slow, reflective time. The hubbub of the holiday is over, and you’re left scrounging through leftovers and hopefully taking some nice long naps to recuperate.

If, on this weekend, you find yourself looking for a show that’s worth diving into, then we’ve got you covered. We’ve pulled together three underseen titles that are currently available on Netflix that are all worth watching, whether you’ve heard of them before or not.

We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

Man on the Inside (2024-)

Ted Danson is one of the most charismatic TV stars of all time, and Man on the Inside takes full advantage of that charisma. The series tells the story of a retired professor who finds a new purpose when he’s hired to go undercover inside a nursing home. Because of its focus on the inner lives of the elderly, Man on the Inside is the perfect combination of gentle and revelatory.

There are very few TV shows that are honest about what it’s like to grow old and move into a nursing home, but Man on the Inside does just that without feeling at all heavy-handed.

Mr. McMahon (2024)

Vince McMahon’s life story might feel like a fairly obscure subsection of American history, but in our current political moment, the story of WWE’s founder has more resonance than you might expect. This docuseries takes you through McMahon’s story, including the many controversies that have long swirled around the organization.

Professional wrestling is not the cultural force that it once was, but McMahon’s sensibility has infused many other aspects of American culture, so much so that you might be surprised by all the ways that McMahon’s influence has spread.

Sprint (2024)

Sprint: The World’s Fastest Humans Part 2 | Official Trailer | Netflix

Another docuseries, Sprint was perfectly timed to the 2024 Olympics, but is still worth watching a few months later. Among the sprinters this documentary follows are two of the biggest stars of the 2024 Games, Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson. On the whole, the series is a reminder of all the quiet work these athletes do to show up on the biggest stage and show us everything they’ve got.

Sprinting races, in particular, are decided by the slimmest possible margins. Lyles and Richardson didn’t have perfect Olympics, but their massive personalities are a reminder that we should pay much more attention to the world of track & field than we do.
