Whether you’re in the camp that believes Love Actually to be a Christmas movie or not, there’s no denying that it’s a rom-com, and one of the best of the last two decades at that. It doesn’t matter how many times you watch the movie, it never gets old.

There are elements of humor, regret, sorrow, and sweetness as you follow stories of an aging pop star who recognizes what’s truly important, a young British man exploring casual love in America, unrequited love, the strains of marriage, the pull of familial obligation, and budding young love.

The Rebound (2009)

A young man pours wine for a woman as she looks on smiling in The Rebound.

The Rebound didn’t get a fair shake when it first debuted, largely because the distributor shut down before release, resulting in the rom-com becoming a direct-to-DVD film. But the combination of Catherine Zeta-Jones and rom-com pro Justin Bartha, along with the interesting story, will have you curious to see how it all plays out.

Zeta-Jones is Sandy, a recently divorced mother of two who meets and befriends a young and aimless barista named Aram (Bartha) ,who is going through a separation of his own. The pair begin a whirlwind romance, despite their 15-year age difference. But the fact that they’re in very different places in their lives, coming from completely different generations, stands in the way of long-term happiness. But should it? If you’re looking for a fun, yet predictable rom-com you haven’t watched yet, The Rebound is a solid choice.
