3 great Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend (November 8-10)

News Room

There are only two extended holiday weekends left in 2024, because Christmas and New Year’s Day are falling in the middle of the week this year. That means you have an extra day to catch up on any films that you’ve been meaning to watch on Hulu. But if you want some recommendations, we’ve already picked out the three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend.

Our first pick is one of the best romantic-comedy musicals to come along in decades, followed by a comic book action flick. In honor of Veteran’s Day on November 11, our final choice is an underrated war movie.

We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

La La Land (2016)

Rom-com musicals were supposedly a thing of the past, and then La La Land came along and charmed moviegoers with its throwback aesthetic and beautifully catchy songs. It famously didn’t win the Oscar for Best Picture in 2017, but Emma Stone received the Best Actress award for her role as Mia Dolan, a young actress who is at the rock-bottom of Hollywood’s pecking order.

Barbie‘s Ryan Gosling co-headlines the film as Sebastian “Seb” Wilder, a struggling musician who is so wrapped up in his own problems that he alienates Mia during their first two encounters. Fortunately for the two lovebirds, cooler heads prevail and they eventually find something in each other that they adore. Love was the easy part, but chasing their dreams is a lot harder, especially when their respective ambitions may pull them apart.

Hellboy (2019)

David Harbour in Hellboy.

The 2019 Hellboy movie is not as good as the 2004 Hellboy movie by Guillermo del Toro. But compared to the low-budget disaster Hellboy: The Crooked Man, the 2019 film doesn’t look that bad. Stranger Things‘ David Harbour headlines the film as Hellboy, a demon from Hell who was raised to be a hero by his adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm (Ian McShane).

On a mission for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy is betrayed by the men he was sent to aid. That’s not his only problem. Vivienne Nimue (Milla Jovovich), aka the Blood Queen, is putting herself back together, and she sees Hellboy as the perfect instrument to unleash an apocalypse on the world. She’s trying to tempt Hellboy to her side just when his defenses are at their lowest.

Tigerland (2000)

Colin Farrell in Tigerland.

Joel Schumacher made a lot of films of questionable quality, especially his two Batman movies. But he wasn’t allergic to making a good movie now and then. Tigerland is arguably the best film that Schumacher ever made, and it’s one of the rare Vietnam war movies that never really makes it to Vietnam.

The Penguin‘s Colin Farrell leads the cast as Private Roland Bozz, a man who would rather be anywhere rather than training to go off to war. His newfound friend, Private Jim Paxton (Matthew Davis), is more enthusiastic about the war until they endure some of the physically brutal trials to get ready to face the enemy. Meanwhile, Bozz makes a nemesis out of his fellow recruit, Private Wilson (Shea Whigham), an increasingly deranged man who wants to murder Bozz long before he ships out to the war.
